Here is a screen shot of what it looks like on Twitter, which is correct.

As you can see the the Bit.ly URL is rendering correctly as a link on Twitter, but it is not rendering correctly in the right sidebar on the site. Additionally, the Twitter Tools plugin is linking words that don’t need to be linked, like and artist’s first name. We have contacted the developer of Twitter Tools to see how we can resolve this issue.

Today, we launched the twiij beta so users could get familiar with the platform. twiij is a simple web service that provides an opportunity for labels and artists to submit a tweet to the followers of twiij on Twitter through our page @twiijdj. It’s very simple to use. Click on “Submit Tweet” in the nav bar, then simply fill out the form, hit submit and your tweet is sent to the DJs following twiij.

The form is made up of a few parts, significant because they create categories for your tweet, which are then searchable through Twitter, by entering the “#” and then “house,” which then might return all tweets containing “#house.” Next, the user will select a type. An example of a type is “#radio,” or “EP” to signify you are tweeting about a radio version or an EP release.

In the remaining text fields, you’ll enter your Artist Name and Track Title. These fields are limited to 30 characters, so be careful about what you enter. We maintain a 30 character limit on Artist and Title to keep reserve characters for the remainder of your Tweet.

Finally, you’ll enter your URL, which is converted to a Bit.ly link using their URL shortening service. The URL can point anywhere: a MySpace page, a Web site, a YouTube video; you enter the details you want and we’ll send it out to the DJs that are following the service.

twiij will grow in two ways. The first way is obviously through DJ adoption. We want all DJs to follow us on Twitter. Please tell your friend. All they have to do is request to follow us. We’re not going to imply the list is all DJs, because I’m definitely going to let some friends on here and there or other taste-makers who are into DJ culture, but it will predominantly be for DJs by DJs.  If we can keep that to 99%, then that’s alright.

I’ve been a DJ for just under 30-years since I scratched my first piece of vinyl. It’s amazing to have come this far in the culture and see all the changes and transitions. I’m certainly glad to be able to provide a little slice of the future of DJ culture through twiij. I order to be successful, we need your help.
